The confrontation that was caught on camera happened during mass while Wuerl asked for prayers for Pope Francis who he said was the object of, "considerable animosity."
The confrontation came just days after Archbishop Carlo Vigano accused Pope Francis of covering up sex abuse allegations against former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former Archbishop of Washington D.C.

Vigano also claimed Wuerl was aware of the abuse allegations against McCarrick. Wuerl has denied these accusations.
Last month, Wuerl sat down one-on-one to talk with FOX 5's Tom Fitzgerald and stated he would not resign from his post. In defending his actions, Wuerl has written to his own priests and issued statements arguing that the way the church deals with child sex abuse cases today differs from how it dealt with it years ago, calling it an "evolution."
