Over 20 people displaced by Silver Spring apartment fire
SILVER SPRING - Over 20 people have been displaced after flames broke out at a high-rise apartment building in Montgomery County, according to officials.
Montgomery County Fire says an electrical fire broke out at Enclave Apartments on Oak Leaf Drive in Silver Spring at around 6:45 a.m. Saturday morning.
Investigators say six apartments were evacuated, with over 20 people displaced after a fire came from an electrical panel.
According to officials, the fire broke out on the 13th floor of the 19-floor building and caused over $15,000 in structural damage, as well as $30,000 in damage to possessions.
Montgomery County fire spokesman Pete Piringer says a smoke alarm activated and awoke the sleeping family.
Fire officials say about 50 firefighters came to the scene, but there were no reports of injuries.
The Red Cross and apartment management are assisting, officials say.
