Officer uses own money to buy homeless man food he was suspected of shoplifting

An officer with a big heart helped a homeless man that was suspected of shoplifting over the weekend.

According to the Howard County Police Department, Officer Peluso and his partner responded to a call for shoplifting on Saturday at a CVS in Ellicott City.

Police say that when Peluso located the man suspected of the crime, he told the officer he was homeless and stole food from the pharmacy.

Authorities say that after appropriate enforcement was taken, Officer Peluso returned to the CVS and used personal money to purchase the food the man said he stole.

The Howard County Police Department issued a memorandum of recognition to Officer Peluso for his compassionate act.
