Officer shoots suspect in Silver Spring parking lot incident
SILVER SPRING, Md. - A Montgomery County police officer is on administrative leave after being involved in a shooting Sunday night in Silver Spring. The shooting happened at the Stoneymill Square shopping center on Veirs Mill Road.
Police received a call around 8:20 p.m. from a 29-year-old man who said his car was being rammed by an unknown SUV. The first officer to respond to the scene fired his weapon, shooting the driver of the SUV, who was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
Police say the circumstances surrounding the situation are still under investigation.
Officials said the officer involved in the shooting was Todd Archer, a 10-year veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department. Archer was placed on paid administrative leave as part of normal protocol following an officer-involved shooting.
