Neighbors on edge after woman killed, man critically injured in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Columbia was once called one of the safest places to live in America. Now, a murder mystery has neighbors on edge after an assault.

Police received a call from concerned family members to come and check on a couple living in one of the bottom unit condos in the 8700 block of Spiral Cut. When officers arrived Sunday night, they found a woman had been killed. A man is still alive but in critical condition.

The victims have been identified as 36-year-old Amanda Harris and her boyfriend, Bill Webb.

Webb, who remains in the hospital, has not been able to tell police what happened yet.

Investigators say both victims suffered some sort of blunt force trauma. They say the condo was secured when officers arrived.

Although the units have screened in windows, a neighbor tells FOX 5 police removed both of the screens from Harris and Webb's unit today. A tow truck also removed nearby dumpsters.

Harris' sister and mother say they are crushed and also desperate to know what happened. They told FOX 5 Amanda was "the kindest soul and would have done anything for anyone."
