Multiple firefighters injured in Charles County blaze, department says
CHARLES COUNTY, Md. - Eleven firefighters were injured fighting a blaze in Charles County, according to local fire officials.
Nine were initially injured, and two more from Prince George's County went to a local hospital for treatment after returning to their station.
According to the department, the fire broke out on Chamberlin Court in Waldorf Friday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 5 p.m. when someone noticed smoke issuing from the roof.
According to officials, the roof collapsed while firefighters were inside, and some of them needed to be pulled from the structure by their fellow first responders.
The firefighters were ordered to evacuate during the operation.
The chief says their injuries are minor.
None of the residents were home during the fire.
Maryland State Fire Marshals are investigating the fire.
They have not indicated what may have caused it.
