An Austell mother convicted of killing her disabled toddler for money has been sentenced to life without parole.

Prosecutors said Erica White gave her 2-year-old, Tyrael McFall, a lethal dose of Codeine because she wanted to cash in on the child's life insurance policy worth $50,000. Prosecutors also said White and her boyfriend tried to open credit cards in the toddler's name.

White was found guilty on Monday of 16 charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, identity fraud, forgery in the second degree, making false statements, and racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations act. She began crying when the first verdict was announced.

The defense asked the judge for life in prison, with the possibility of parole. But the state was not on board

"Your honor, there cannot exist any set of circumstances that would mitigate such a cold, callous, horrific and monstrous crime. It is therefore that the state of Georgia stands before you with the request of a maximum punishment allowable under Georgia law," the prosecutor said during Wednesday's hearing.

Cobb County Judge Mary Staley Clarke agree with prosecutors, telling White that she lacks compassion for the human being white brought into the world.

Judge Clarke sentenced White to life without parole, plus 83 years to serve consecutively.
