Montgomery County Police officer recovering after collapsing at Westfield Wheaton
WHEATON, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - An officer is recovering after he collapsed while responding to a call at Westfield Wheaton, Montgomery County Police confirmed Tuesday.
Police say officers were called to the mall at around 12:35 p.m. after getting reports of shoplifting at JC Penney.
At the scene, officers a short pursuit ensued after the shoplifters reportedly ran when police arrived. One suspect was arrested.
During the pursuit, an officer had a medical emergency while he was standing next to his cruiser before collapsing. EMS personnel were called to the scene for cardiac arrest.
The officer was then transported to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition.
