Meteor sightings in 12 states, DC as stunning fireball streaks across sky above East Coast Tuesday
WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - Stunning videos of a fireball streaking across the sky above the East Coast were posted online after a meteor was spotted Tuesday night.
The American Meteor Society says hundreds reported seeing the bright flash over the skies of Washington D.C. and in twelve states including Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Delaware.
The meteor was reported at 10:57 p.m. on April 16.
The AMS says the fireball was travelling from North to South and ended its flight in the Atlantic Ocean in front of Bethany Beach, Delaware.
Video sent to FOX 5 by viewer Celeste Linthicum from Leesburg, Virginia shows the streak flash across the sky.
FOX News reports that the Lyrid meteor shower hits Earth around April 16 and is expected to last through April 28.
