WASHINGTON - The company that accidentally pumped fuel oil into the wrong house almost a month ago is now physically working on the home.
The Calhoun family said crews went to their Accokeek home Tuesday morning, and although some progress has been made, they said it is still not enough after their lives have been turned upside down when Price Oil Company pumped 100 gallons of fuel oil into a non-functioning pipe, which then spilled into the basement of the home. The house was condemned following the incident.
Nearly a month later, the Calhouns are still living out of a hotel with their two children and are footing that bill along with their mortgage and electricity.
As of right now, the family said they don't really know what is next for them, but this is far from over.
"If I didn't have support, I would be going crazy," said Stacy Calhoun. "It's just terrible … My family is still out of a home. We are still living from hotel to hotel. So it's taken an emotional toll on everyone."
In the meantime, the family of four has since filed a complaint with the Maryland Insurance Administration on the advice of their attorney.
"Mary Price gets to go home every night to her home," said Calhoun. "We have to go back to a hotel and then check out, and then go to another hotel, stay for a few days, checkout. It's frustrating."
The attorney for the 22-year-old oil company said they did have a crew come out to the home after it happened on Jan. 10 and have been remediating ever since.
When FOX 5 asked why the company did not put the Calhoun family up in a hotel from the very beginning, the attorney chose not to answer.
