Investigators say a barricade situation has now turned a man-hunt after a man wanted by police barricaded himself at a Fairfax County motel.

Fairfax County police say they are now looking for 32-year-old Alton Thodos at the Virginia Lodge Motel at the 6000 block of Richmond Highway in Alexandria. Police say they went to locate Thodos on Saturday to serve him with arrest warrants.

Fairfax County police say Thodos barricaded himself in a room at the motel and made threats against himself if police came in.

Investigators say a woman was in the room with him, but then came out, giving police an opportunity to get inside.

However, just before officers got inside, Thodos went up through the ceiling and into the attic and was able to come down and escape through another part of the building before we were able to secure the whole perimeter.

Thodos is wanted for active warrants on grand larceny, credit card theft, credit card fraud and a probation violation, police say. He is described as 6'1", 175 pounds, with a beard, wearing a red hat and a white shirt. Thodos may be driving a silver 2013 BMW X1 with Virginia tags UZE-8869.

Officials ask that those in the area avoid the location while officers work to peacefully de-escalate the situation.
