DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB/NNS) - A Louisiana man braved flood waters to save eight dogs and three puppies Saturday. He used a blow up mattress to move them across several feet of water and to his car.
He told a reporter nearby he left his car parked on higher ground overnight in case waters began to rapidly rise, which they did. He said there was three feet of water in his house, and water was still rising.
It's unclear if he was able to find a shelter to stay for the day. He is just one of one of thousands of people affected by the severe weather in the area.
Governor John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency on Friday, saying Saturday flooding had reached record levels in some parts of the state. More rain was expected to worsen conditions throughout the weekend.
Much of southwest Louisiana was under a flash flood watch until Sunday.
