Family demands answers after son killed in Landover double shooting

The search continues for a motive and suspect or suspects connected to a deadly New Year’s Eve shooting in Landover. The shooting was reported just after 8 p.m. Tuesday at the 7500 block of Landover Road. 

The victim was identified this week as 27-year-old Michael Shipman, Jr. of D.C., who was found inside a car with multiple gunshot wounds. Shipman was pronounced dead at the scene. Another woman was also shot and taken to a hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 

DC mom still searching for answers 1 year after son was gunned down leaving church service

A mother is pleading for answers nearly a year after her son was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in the District. The unsolved murder happened on South Dakota Avenue here in Northeast in January of this year. The victim’s mother says her grief is never-ending.

"Every day moving forward is going to be a struggle for me. This does not go away. This is not something that could be easier with time. You learn to live with it. That's all you do," Janet Realbuto told FOX 5. 

Realbuto is reflecting on the murder of her 23-year-old son Ryan, a graduate of St. Bonaventure University who was doing a year of post-graduate service in D.C. when he was shot and killed on this snowy street during an attempted robbery.

"I still have not gotten over the shock and the reality that my son was murdered walking down the street in Washington D.C.," she told FOX 5.

Caught on camera: Man smashes ANC commissioner's car window, steals purse

A D.C. official is among the latest victims of car break-ins and theft and video cameras caught the suspect smashing her car window and running off with her purse.

Tricia Duncan, 3D02 commissioner for Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3D, shared a video on X over the weekend regarding a Dec. 20 incident around 1:30 p.m. Duncan said that day, she was meeting with another commissioner and constituent by 49th Street and Van Ness in the Spring Valley neighborhood.

Duncan’s car is equipped with cameras, which showed a person smashing her passenger window shortly after she left the car. It was roughly 90 seconds after she left, she said.

A rideshare driver was shot multiple times last night outside an ExtraSpace storage unit in Brentwood. Now, his family is grappling with devastation as the 36-year-old recovers from his injuries. 

Oluwatosin Adetula, a new father of four months, is fighting for his life in critical condition at a hospital following the late-night shooting. His parents, overcome with grief, are pleading for answers as police work to uncover who shot him and why.
