ATLANTA - He jumped from a third floor condominium for fear of his life.
Police said 51-year old Jose Greer managed to call 911 when the men were breaking in. He then was able to tell the responding officer a few more details before being rushed to the hospital where he died 6 hours later.
Atlanta Police said the home invasion occurred Tuesday night around 7:30 at the Sky-Lofts Condominiums on the 800 block of Oak Street in southwest Atlanta.
They released surveillance video which shows one man letting in two accomplices to the hallway. Investigators said the three then proceeded to Greer's third floor condo.
After they ransacked Greer's home, police said the men fled with apparently only a few valuables. Investigators said the surveillance video shows the men pausing as they are walking around Greer who was mortally wounded on the ground.
Maurice Gunter, the HOA president of Sky-Lofts Condominiums told FOX 5 News Jose Greer was a model resident who always was proactive and helpful to the entire community.
Atlanta Police pointed out some distinctive features in clothing of a couple of men; one had a back pack he was carrying out. Another was wearing a knit cap with the word "supreme" on it. Police said that brand is associated with skateboarding. Police asked the public to take a good look at the surveillance with hopes someone will call in with important tips. An anonymous donor contributed big money to Crime Stoppers for a total reward of $35,000.
Atlanta Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
