WASHINGTON - A Prince George's County man faces murder and other charges after allegedly shooting three women, killing two, then setting a fire Monday in Southeast D.C.
Authorities including U.S. Marshalls and Stafford County sheriffs arrested 32-year-old Keanan Christopher Turner on Friday.
Police identified Turner as the prime suspect in the mayhem Monday.
They say Turner shot and killed 48-year-old Wanda Wright, and her daughter, 32-year-old Ebony Wright, on Monday night in the 2300 block of Good Hope Court, Southeast.
"It won’t bring them back, but at least they’ll have justice," said Robin McKinney, a family friend of the Wright family.
The younger Wright was the mother of Turner's child. Wanda Wright is the child's grandmother.
Turner is also accused of shooting and injuring a third woman, his child's aunt, who has been identified as Destiny Wright.
Investigators believe Turner set the fire as he exited the scene.
A baby named Grayson, who is Turner's child, was inside the apartment when the triple shooting occured. The four-month-old was not injured.
"Destiny has taken on a full responsibility – at a young age – besides what happened to her sister and her mom, she decided she will have to raise baby Grayson," McKinney said.
A GoFundme page has raised over $20,000 dollars to help support Wright through this tragedy. She is a sophomore at North Carolina A&T.
"She’s majoring in child development and family studies and it’s amazing how she’s forced to use her degree early," McKinney said.
While the Wright family grieves, they are thankful this dangerous man is off the streets.
"I can’t imagine how this family feels right now, but I can imagine the breath that they can take now that this guy who did this tragic, harmful, hurt to this family has been apprehended," McKinney said.
Turner is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder while armed (premeditated) and assault with intent to kill while armed.
The Congress Heights community is upset after hearing about this tragedy.
Neighbors are hosting a Public Safety Town Hall Meeting at 1 p.m. Monday, April 19th at the Malcolm X Opportunity Center located at 1351 Alabama Avenue SE.
