Major morning delays for commuters after arcing insulators cause backups on Metro's Red Line

Two separate incidents involving arcing insulators delayed trains and caused crowds of frustrated commuters to wait for shuttle buses along Metro's Red Line Friday morning.

The first incident was reported around 8 a.m. outside of the Medical Center station. Metro officials initially suspended service between the Medical Center and Grosvenor stations. Single tracking began a short time later; however, delays continued throughout the morning.

At around 9:15 a.m., a second arcing insulator outside of the Dupont Circle station suspended service between there and Woodley Park. Service was rested around 10:45 a.m.

No injuries were reported during the service delays. Shuttle buses helped move passengers between stations during the service disruptions.
