Mail carrier robbed, beaten in Washington

(AP) -- Authorities say a mail carrier was beaten and robbed on his route in northeast Washington.

United States Postal Inspection Service spokesman Frank Schissler tells local media that the man was returning to his postal vehicle at about 6 p.m. Saturday when two masked robbers approached him.

Washington police say the robbers put a pistol to the mail carrier's head and ordered him to the ground. The robbers then struck the man with the pistol, kicked him and took several items from him, including the bag in which he carried mail. Schlisser says the bag was empty.

The victim ran and eventually found a police car.

The robbers, who Schlisser says were wearing black masks and dressed in all black, remain at large.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.
