A Lyft driver is accused of raping a woman near her home in Prince William County.

Police said the 33-year-old victim reported that she used the Lyft app just after midnight last Wednesday to request a ride to her home in Gainesville. The alleged sexual assault happened when they arrived in the area of the victim's home.

The victim returned to her residence and contacted police about the incident later that day, officials said.

Investigators identified 33-year-old Amir Sami Handouk as the suspect in the sexual assault, and arrested and charged him with rape and object sexual penetration two days later.

Handouk is being held without bond, according to police.

Lyft said in a statement:

"These allegations are extremely upsetting, and we were horrified to learn about this incident. The safety of the Lyft community is our number one priority, and we have absolutely no tolerance for this behavior. We immediately reached out to the passenger to extend our full support, and have permanently deactivated the driver. We have been in touch with law enforcement to provide our assistance."
