LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has released the name of a woman who was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver last week.
Lauren McDarby, 60, was walking along a road near her home when she was struck and killed around 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
Zachary Frye, 19, has been charged in connection with her death.
On Monday, several members of Frye's family were tearful in court, but his hearing was rescheduled because results from his blood test are still pending.
Court documents reveal that Frye told investigators he had been drinking that morning before getting behind the wheel, and that the officer who responded to the scene of the crash observed a strong odor of alcohol and glassy, bloodshot eyes.
A lawyer for Frye was joined by several of his family members Monday in court.
The 19-year-old has been charged with DWI and involuntary manslaughter.
Deputies say Frye's vehicle veered off Morrisonville Road in Purcellville and struck McDarby, throwing her into the air.
McDarby lives less than a mile from the scene where she was killed.
According to investigators, she walked three times a day from her home to the church, where she worked as a volunteer.
McDarby's family declined to speak on Monday. Her picture has not been publically shared as she was a very private person.
Frye is scheduled to return to court on April 12.
