WASHINGTON - A local youth baseball team is heading to the Cal Ripken World Series!
The PG Select Blue Sox, based in Upper Marlboro, are competing in the championship tournament after defeating teams from across the mid-Atlantic last week.
On Sunday, the team advanced to the Cal Ripken World Series by beating a Pennsylvania team by the score of 2-1 using a 'suicide squeeze' play.
Head coach Joe Ruddy said that many of the players on the current team have been with him for several seasons. Assistant coach Kenny Martin attributed their success to the hard work and dedication of everyone on the team.
The tournament will be held from August 3rd to the 11th in Branson, Missouri. If you would like to help the team raise funds for their trip, you can visit their GoFundMe page.
