Multiple suspects wanted after 12-year-old shot in Fairfax County, police say
FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. - Fairfax County police are investigating after a child was injured in a shooting Tuesday afternoon.
Around 4:15 p.m., officers responded to the 4600 block of North Chambliss Street in Lincolnia where they found a 12-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body outside of a home.
The juvenile was taken to the hospital with injuries that, at this time, are not considered to be life-threatening.
Police say multiple suspects are believed to be involved and at least one of them fled the scene in a white BMW. The motive for the shooting has not yet been established but police say there is no immediate threat to the public.
"The circumstances leading up to this are still under investigation," Fairfax County Police Sgt. Jacob Pearce said. "This is still a very active scene."
Neighbors say their community is usually quiet and many were left shaken by news of the violent crime.
"It's definitely a pretty major event in any community," Pearce said. "You can rest assured we're going to have officers and detectives out in the area, saturating the area and again, canvassing, speaking to neighbors and looking for cameras, so we're really encouraging the community to be a part of this investigation and call 911 if they have video footage or if they were able to witness the incident."
