International Space Station seen passing over DC

People in the Washington D.C. area may have gotten a clear glimpse of the International Space Station (ISS) flying directly overhead during the evening sky on Wednesday.

NASA photographer Bill Ingalls captured the third-brightest object in the sky as it streaked through space over Washington National Cathedral at around 5:34 p.m.

Great views of the ISS could be seen above cities throughout the East Coast ranging from Charleston, South Carolina to New York to Boston and all the way up to Portland, Maine at around the same time period as the spacecraft traveled at around 17,500 miles per hour.

NASA astronaut Randy Bresnik, who is onboard the International Space Station, captured some images of the East Coast cities from the orbiting space station.
