Americans came together for the Fourth of July in DC to celebrate the country's independence.

Hundreds gathered at George Washington's mansion in Mount Vernon to witness historic reenactments and a fireworks show during the day.

Revelers stayed in downtown DC to watch the annual Fourth of July Capitol Parade and several others headed down to Navy Yard to see the Washington Nationals defeat the New York Mets.

Meanwhile, the Sons of the American Revolution honored Capitol Police Special Agent David Bailey and Officer Crystal Griner, who were injured during the Alexandria shooting on June 14.

Bailey and Griner were awarded law enforcement commendation medals.
