An urgent plea is being made by the Humane Rescue Alliance in D.C. to have all of its available animals adopted over the next two days.

The shelter is performing maintenance at its New York Avenue location and needs to evacuate 160 animals from that building by 5 p.m. Wednesday.

To make the process move quickly, the shelter says both of its adoption centers will waive their fees on Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30.

"We are in critical need of adoptive homes," said Claudia Roll, vice president of operations at the Humane Rescue Alliance in a statement posted online. "We have so many wonderful animals in our adoption centers who are waiting to meet their new families, and we want to send as many of them home as possible."

The location at 71 Oglethorpe Street will be open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday

The location at 1201 New York Avenue will be open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The available animals have been spayed or neutered and micro-chipped. The Humane Rescue Alliance is also in urgent need of bedding donations.
