Here's why DC is the 3rd most expensive state for childcare
WASHINGTON - A recent study found D.C. is among the top three states in the country with the highest weekly childcare costs.
According to HelpAdvisor, parents in the nation's capital pay $427.90 a week in childcare costs. On average U.S. families spend roughly 27% of their household income on childcare. The health based site reports that the national average for the amount of money spent on weekly childcare services is $325.39.
Virginia is listed as the seventh most expensive state at $392.70, with Maryland sitting in the fourteenth spot with $367.85 in weekly costs for childcare.
Nevada was named the most expensive state when it comes to childcare, hitting a whopping $493.46 a week in childcare costs. Although, weekly childcare costs were lowest in Iowa ($182.42), Mississippi ($203.38) and Oklahoma ($209.41).
According to census data, the median household income in the district is $101,027, with Maryland raking in $94,991 for the median income, and Virginia pulling in $85,873.
