ARLINGTON, Va. - Next weekend, thousands of wreaths will be laid at the gravestones of military veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery. The non-profit group that spearheads the effort, 'Wreaths Across America,' is wrapping up its fundraising effort today but is still in great need of donations.
The group announced last week that they were in need of 30,000 wreaths to make sure all graves were represented.
Wayne Hanson, the chairman of 'Wreaths Across America,' joined us Tuesday and told us that funds for over 20,000 wreaths had been collected since last week. Hanson said the group is hoping to collect funds for approximately 8,000 wreaths so that all graves will be represented.
The group places 700,000 wreaths nationwide annually began laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992.
"Arlington buries 25 to 30 people a day. So each year our goal at Arlington has to increase," Hanson said.
