ANNAPOLIS, Md. - It was Induction Day at the U.S. Naval Academy. While it was a new start for hundreds of plebes, this day was also a somber goodbye for two barbers who have been giving fresh cuts for the midshipmen that have come and gone for the last 34 years.
Leroy Evans and Marge Burton both started on the same day back on March 15, 1982. After thousands of haircuts, these two are also hanging up their clippers on the same day as they see a new batch of 1,200 young men and women report as part of the Class of 2020.
For Evans, 78, and Burton, 66, retirement will be quite a change for them.
"I've been working all my life," said Evans. "I can't just sit down. I can't help nobody when I sit down."
"I've been here half my life, so it's hard to walk away," said Burton.
"I'm going to miss it," Evans said. "I have been doing this for so long, it's just been a part of me."
FOX 5 Photojournalist Nelson Jones stopped by the U.S. Naval Academy's Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Md., to see them in action for one of the final times. (Watch the video above)
