A man wanted on child sex abuse charges was shot by law enforcement officers at a motel in Frederick, officials say.

Authorities say the 45-year-old man was wanted on a felony warrant out of Beaver County, Pennsylvania for child sexual assault and abuse charges.

Deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the city’s police department tracked down the man just before midnight Thursday at a Super 8 motel on Monocacy Boulevard.

A barricade situation unfolded after officers made contact with him, and he refused to leave his room. Officials say he told officers he was armed with a gun.
