WASHINGTON - An astounding one in 10 children will be sexually abused before the age of 18 in the DC region. Clinicians think that number could be even higher because children don’t always report the abuse. Getting those victims the care and help they need is vital to their healing.
Safe Shores is a non-profit advocacy center that understands not only the need to get the resources to children and their families who need it, but to deliver those resources in a respectful and caring way.
“We wrap ourselves as a team around this child and their family rather than dragging them through a process that frankly can be very confusing and inhumane,” Safe Shores Executive Director Michele Booth-Cole said.
With Safe Shores, everything from medical services to mental support to new clothing is under one roof. Booth-Cole said it’s designed that way to minimize further trauma.
FOX 5 DC Cares recognizes the importance and the need to have a resource such as Safe Shores in our community serving our children of trauma.
