A former Fairfax County sheriff's deputy is in jail without bond after he was accused of sexually assaulting an inmate at the Fairfax County Alternative Incarceration Center.

Investigators say the victim contacted the Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs Bureau in August 2017, saying she had been sexually assaulted by the deputy in either December 2016 or January 2017.

The Internal Affairs Section of the sheriff's office launched an investigation into 47-year-old Keith Washington of Stafford, who they said resigned in December 2017 in lieu of pending termination.

Investigators obtained warrants for Washington on Tuesday and he surrendered to authorities.

Washington was charged with one count of carnal knowledge of an inmate and one count of sexual battery.
