SILVER SPRING, Md. - A fire that began in the trash chute of a high-rise apartment complex in Montgomery County damaged at least 20 units and displaced over a dozen residents, officials say.
The fire was reported just before 7 p.m. Monday at the 19-story Enclave Apartments on Oakleaf Drive in Silver Spring.
Emergency crews evacuated the building. The fire was determined to have started in the building's trash chute and spread to the roof and other areas.
Officials say between 20 and 40 units were damaged by water. Some residents spent the night at a make shift shelter at the White Oak Recreation Center. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
