Fire Breaks Out at Virginia Intermont College
A large fire broke out at the former college campus of Virginia Intermont College, causing several road closures in Bristol, Virginia.
The school, which was opened in 1884, was originally founded to create additional educational opportunities for women in Southwest Virginia and became co-educational in 1972, and closed due to financial problems and the loss of their accreditation in 2014.
According to WJHL, there have been multiple fires on the campus in the last few years.
"Words can't express the sadness and the effect this will have on our city," said Neal Osbourne, a Bristol City councilman.
