Deadly motorcycle crash in Fairfax County

A fatal motorcycle crash has shut down select lanes of US 1 in Fairfax County, causing delays.

"If you’re not careful, something like this is bound to happen and happens all too frequently. So county, please, listen to us. Put a stop light here for the protection of the residents and the kids and the pedestrians that traverse up and down Route 1," Woods said.

The speed limit on this stretch of road is 50 miles an hour. Woods says making a left out of the neighborhood requires looking left and monitoring 3 lanes of traffic coming up a hill, then also being aware of lanes of travel coming southbound down the hill.

Woods says neighbors have petitioned the country for a stoplight, but it hasn’t happened.

"We don’t want anyone to lose their life. Obviously, it’s not the county’s fault. We’ve petitioned the county, we’ve made them aware that this is an issue. This is not the first accident, sadly, I think it’s the first fatal one, but there are accidents here all the time. But we’ve petitioned the county, and hopefully, they’ll listen. Put a stoplight here. It won’t impede the flow of traffic as much as it will save lives and improve the safety of the residents that live here," Woods said.
