Fairfax County thief caught with help of lost shoe, police say

A thief was caught in Fairfax County after police said they were able to match a lost shoe to him on Tuesday.

Fairfax County police said the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Samuel Bucey of the District, was caught breaking into a man's truck in the parking lot of TownePlace Suites on Brandon Avenue in Springfield at about 9:20 p.m.

While Bucey was fleeing the scene he lost a shoe, according to police.

Authorities said an officer spotted Bucey wearing one shoe and riding a bicycle. The officer was able to match the shoe left behind at the scene to the one Bucey was wearing, police said.

Bucey was taken into custody for destruction of property, grand larceny and possession of a firearm by a non-violent felon.
