WASHINGTON - Five days after a Prince George's County officer was gunned down trying to protect a female neighbor involved in a domestic situation, the neighbor has broken her silence on social media.
Last Wednesday morning, Prince George's County Police Cpl. Mujahid Ramzziddin intervened in a domestic dispute between his neighbor, Joanne Tyndell and her estranged husband, Glenn, in their Brandywine neighborhood. Ramzziddin was off duty when police say Glenn Tyndell shot and killed him while the officer stepped in to protect Joanne.
Police would later kill Glenn Tyndell in Fort Washington after leading officers on a brief chase.
He had a history of domestic violence allegations against him and had three open warrants for assault. In the month before the shooting, Joanne Tyndell had a protective order against her husband.
She posted her thoughts on Facebook along with a video on Monday regarding the death of her husband and Ramzziddin.
She wrote in part:
And while I endured painful times during our relationship it was only when the pain was directed to our children was when I had to end my loyalty to our vows and start protecting our children. As adults we are responsible for our actions and make choices to stay in relationships for better or worse. But as parents our first priority is always to protect our children.
Joanne Tyndell also added:
At the end of the day my husband was an adult and fully responsible for his actions.
Ramzziddin was a 14-year veteran of the Prince George's County Police Department. Joanne Tyndell also directed part of her Facebook post to the officer and his family saying:
I can only offer my heart wrenching apologies and beg that they forgive me for involving you with my situation. While I do not wish to go over the details, I did reach out to the law enforcement that day in front of the Cpl. so he could hear what was being told to me.
I pray for the Ramzziddin's family and thank Cpl. Ramzziddin for saving my life and allowing me to see my children again. I pray for my in-laws that they may find peace. And I pray and ask for privacy as I clutch on to my children and get through this.
Cpl. Ramzziddin was laid to rest on Friday. Prince George's County police said there will be a vigil for the slain officer on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Chadds Ford Community Center in Brandywine.
