Employee stabs co-worker inside Giant Food grocery store in DC
WASHINGTON - An employee was stabbed by a co-worker inside a Giant Food grocery store Thursday afternoon.
Police say the stabbing took place at around 5:10 p.m. Thursday in the 4300 block of Connecticut Avenue in Northwest D.C. The male adult victim was conscious and breathing when officers arrived. He was taken to George Washington University Hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.
The suspect was taken into custody, police say.
A store employee told FOX 5 that the two workers got into a fight in the produce section and a long knife that is used to cut up watermelon was the weapon used in the stabbing.
The grocery store was closed after the incident.
Giant Food said in a statement:
"At this time, we are cooperating with local authorities and ask that all of your questions be directed to the law enforcement team handling this unfortunate situation. We want to express our concern for the associate affected by this incident and for all of our associates at the Van Ness store. We are working to provide them with the assistance they need at this difficult time."
