Elderly couple dead in possible murder-suicide in Fairfax County: police

Authorities say an elderly couple is dead after a possible murder-suicide Tuesday night in Fairfax County.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. - An elderly couple is dead after police believe a murder-suicide took place Tuesday night in Fairfax County.

Officers from the Fairfax County Police Department said they responded to a home in the 8900 block of Walker Street around 10:15 p.m. where they found the man and woman dead inside.

The couple has been identified by police as 86-year-old Janos John Gertler and 73-year-old Eva Anna Vas. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to detectives, Janos shot his wife, Eva, before turning the gun on himself. Several empty carriage cases, police said, were found at the home.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to conduct autopsies to confirm the official manner and cause of death.

The investigation is continuing at this time.
