Driver was fleeing drug investigation before deadly I-95 crash

A driver was fleeing from police who were investigating his vehicle for drugs when he crashed into a tractor-trailer on I-95 at Route 216 in Laurel, according to Howard County police.

A second person who allegedly fled from police in Laurel before crashing into a tractor-trailer on I-95 has died, Howard County police said on Friday.

On Thursday, police said they were approaching a car in the 9100 block of All Saints Road around 2:17 p.m. regarding a report of drug activity when it sped away.

They say the driver, 24-year-old Malik Emmanuel Britton, drove onto I-95 northbound and maneuvered into an illegal U-Turn.

When his vehicle entered the southbound lane of I-95, it was struck by a tractor trailer, according to police.

Britton and a passenger, 21-year-old Jonathan Asare Somuah of Silver Spring, were rushed to a local hospital.

Britton died, and Somuah was pronounced dead afterward.

According to police, neither of the men were wearing seatbelts.
