1 man dead, 1 hospitalized after shooting inside Dumfries home

Authorities say a man is dead and another has been hospitalized after a double shooting inside a home in Prince William County.

Police responded to a home in the 1900 block of Fort Monroe Court just before 9:45 a.m. Friday where they found both men suffering from gunshot wounds.

First responders transported the men to an area hospital where police say one of the victims died a short time later. The second man remains hospitalized.

Police say the suspect, who is believed to be known to members of the home, fled the residence after the shooting.

Double shooting in Prince William County under investigation

Several neighbors, concerned for their safety if they spoke on camera, told FOX 5 off-camera they were not surprised by the shooting and do not feel safe in the area. They described questionable activity at the home involved and noted a shooting had happened there before.

Police were only able to confirm shots were fired after an argument on the 1900 block of Fort Monroe Court in 2020. They would not confirm the exact address of the shooting.

On the other side of this same neighborhood is where a 3-year-old was killed in a mass shooting back in January.

Prince William County police did not say what the Friday morning gunfire stemmed from. A 911 caller and some people in the house were originally described by police as not cooperative. Police did not name the suspect they are searching for. They did say the suspect was believed to have driven off in a vehicle, has likely left the area, and that this incident was not a random shooting.

Police are also waiting to notify the next of kin before releasing the name of the man killed. Both men shot were described to FOX 5 as younger adults.
