DC's 1st homicide of 2025 under investigation

D.C. police are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2025.

Authorities were called to the 5200 block of Just Street in northeast Washington around 10:30 p.m. Thursday for the report of a shooting.

Investigators say one person was struck by gunfire. It is unclear if they were hospitalized or if they died on the scene.

No motive or suspect information has been released at this time.

Motor Vehicle Theft: Decreased by 25% (from 6,809 in 2023 to 5,139 in 2024)

Theft from Auto: Decreased by 14% (from 7,795 in 2023 to 6,698 in 2024)

Theft (Other): Decreased by 2% (from 13,314 in 2023 to 13,037 in 2024)

Arson: Decreased by 64% (from 11 in 2023 to 4 in 2024)

Total Property Crimes: Decreased by 11% (from 29,024 in 2023 to 25,879 in 2024)
