DC Voting Guide: What you need to know before heading to the polls Nov. 6

WASHINGTON - Before you head to the polls to cast your vote in D.C. on Tuesday, here's everything you need to know:

Polling stations will be open on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As long as you are in line before 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote. If you need to find your local polling station, click here.

If you haven't had time to register to vote, remember that D.C. allows same-day registration. You can check your registration here.

If you plan to do same-day registration, you must have proof of residence in the District. Voters must have resided in D.C. at least 30 days prior to Nov. 6 and must be 18 years old. Voters may not be in jail for a felony conviction while casting their vote or have been found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote.

Washingtonians will be keeping a close eye several major races, including:

Mayor: Democratic incumbent Muriel Bowser is the heavy favorite to win the mayoral race and retain her position in the city's top post. The opponents who will appear on the ballot along with Bowser are Ann Wilcox, representing the D.C. Statehood Green Party; Independent Dustin 'DC' Canter; and Libertarian candidate Martin Moulton.

Council Chairman: Incumbent Phil Mendelson is facing a challenge from Libertarian Ethan Bishop-Henchman. Mendelson describes himself as a public servant who "believes in practical government that responsibly delivers services." Bishop-Henchman's Twitter profile describes him as an "advocate for free markets by day. A social justice warrior by night."

At-Large Councilmember: An array of candidates are running for the position of at-large member of the council of the District of Columbia including:

- Anita Bonds (Democrat)

- Elissa Silverman (Independent)

- Ralph Chittams (Republican),

- David Schwartzman (D.C. Statehood Green Party)

- Rustin Lewis (Independent)

- Dionne Reeder (Independent)

Ward 1 Member of the Council of the District of Columbia:

- Jamie Sycamore (Independent)

- Brianne Nadeau (Democrat)

Ward 3 Member of the Council of the District of Columbia:

- Mary Cheh (Democrat)

- Petar Dimtchev (Independent)
