DC to celebrate ‘Chuck Brown Day’ with annual event at Chuck Brown Memorial Park

Aug. 17 marks the 5th Annual Chuck Brown Day and D.C. will be honoring the 'Godfather of Go-Go' with an entertainment-filled afternoon.

Aug. 17 marks the 5th Annual Chuck Brown Day! The special day honors the musical legend Chuck Brown, affectionately known as the 'Godfather of Go-Go.'

Brown, who passed away May 16, 2012, created his own unique sound that blended funk, blues and old school hip-hop-- his music attracted legions of fans through the 1970's and on.

To commemorate the late artist, every year fans gather at the Chuck Brown Memorial Park, located on Franklin St. NE, to enjoy a funfilled afternoon that features musical performances by local go-go bands.

The event is free to attend and according to the Facebook event page, is slated to run from 2 p.m. through 7 p.m.-- so bring your lawn chair!
