CLINTON, Md. - A D.C. police officer was killed following a motorcycle crash in Prince George's County, officials say.
D.C. police say Officer Jamal Shaw was killed after the collision took place at around 3:25 p.m. Friday in the 9100 block of Piscataway Road in Clinton.
A spokesperson for Prince George's County police says the officer was riding on his motorcycle when a vehicle in an adjacent lane made an abrupt lane change, causing the officer to go down with his motorcycle. He was then struck by another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
Shaw was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
D.C. police said in a statement:
"It is with great sadness that we inform you, a member of the MPD family passed away in a vehicular accident this afternoon in Prince George's County, Maryland.
"Officer Jamal Shaw joined the DC Police Department in May of 2015 and was most recently assigned to the First District.
"Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers."
Following his death, the fallen officer was escorted by police to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore Friday night.
