DC native Caleb Williams wins 2022 Heisman Trophy
D.C. native and University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams is the 2022 winner of the Heisman Trophy.
WASHINGTON - D.C. native and University of Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams is the 2022 winner of the Heisman Trophy.
ESPN announced the winner in a ceremony Saturday night.
Williams is the first-ever player from the D.C. region to win the Heisman Trophy. Before joining the Trojans as USC, he played football at Gonzaga College High School.
Gonzaga Coach Randy Trivers says he had "good butterflies" when Williams won Saturday night.
"I think he has the combination necessary to be one of these truly, truly elite and rare winners," said Trivers. "Most importantly, he's got the right demeanor about what he does when challenged, he has the right amount of poise and confidence and ability to rise to the occasion."

Coach Randy Trivers said he had "good butterflies" when former Gonzaga High School football player and D.C. native Caleb Williams won the 2022 Heisman Trophy.
The 20-year-old received 544 first-place votes, ahead of TCU quarterback Max Duggan with 188 first-place votes.
