FAIRFAX STATION, Va. - A U.S. Customs and Border Protection employee has been arrested after his dog was found shot to death at an archery range in Fairfax County, according to police.
Fairfax County police said the dog of 61-year-old Mark Cochrane was found dead with a gunshot wound at the Northern Virginia Archers Club Range, which is adjacent to Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, on July 15.
The dog, a shepherd mix, had a collar, but no tags. Authorities were able to locate a microchip that they said led them to Cochrane.
Cochrane, of Reston, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with felony animal cruelty, hunting or discharge of firearms in certain places prohibited, and dumping trash, companion animal, etc., on highway, public, or private property.
Authorities confirmed to FOX 5 that Cochrane is an employee with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
