ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Virginia Congressman Don Beyer honored the first responders of the Alexandria shooting during a special ceremony on Thursday.
The representative was at Alexandria Police Headquarters to honor police and firefighters for the heroism they displayed during the June 14 shooting at the congressional baseball practice.
Beyer presented the police department and fire department with a framed copy of what he said on the House floor the morning of the shooting.
Authorities said 66-year-old James Hodgkinson, of Belleville, Illinois, opened fire on Republicans practicing for their charity baseball game.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, Congressional aide Zachary Barth, former staffer and current Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika and U.S. Capitol Police Special Agent Crystal Griner were wounded during the shooting.

Two Capitol Police officers have been credited for jumping into action and returning fire, diverting attention away from more possible victims.
Three Alexandria police officers were specifically identified as being the first to arrive at the scene and also returning fire on Hodgkinson.
Firefighters were credited with quickly arriving to the scene and treating the victims, ultimately helping to save their lives.

Eventually, Hodgkinson was shot and killed. The FBI said its investigation had determined Hodgkinson acted alone and terrorism was not involved in the shooting.
