Check your mailbox! Virginia tax refund checks are in the mail

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - Check your mailbox! Nearly three million special refund checks are in the mail in Virginia, as first reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
According to the Virginia Department of Taxation, "the Virginia Tax Relief Refunds are the result of state legislation passed by the 2019 Virginia General Assembly in response to the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act."
Eligible taxpayers in the state could receive up to $110 if they filed individually or up to $220 if they filed jointly as a married couple.
The Virginia Department of Treasury started mailing out the checks on Sept. 16. They are expected to be finished by Oct. 15, according to the Times-Dispatch.
