Burning smell in DC area may be due to smoke from NC wildfires, officials say

What's that smell? Areas around the DMV have been reporting a smell of something burning – but what is it?

The National Weather Service says a wind shift has caused smoke from the wildfires in North Carolina to migrate to our area, causing odor and haze to linger.

According to D.C. Fire and EMS, there are no known incidents in the area that could be causing the odor on a local level.
