Former President Bill Clinton on Wednesday made an unannounced visit to the site of the Pulse nightclub, to pay respects to the victims at a memorial along Orange Avenue.

Photographs of Clinton's visit were take by John McClain, who happened to be driving by the location at the time. He shared those images with FOX 35.

"I saw police pull up in front of Pulse, and I thought, 'Oh my God, what now.' Suddenly a guy with gray hair got out and I thought, 'Oh my God, that's Bill Clinton,'" McClain told the Orlando Sentinel.

Clinton's visit comes on the same day that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement turned over its part of the Pulse nightclub shooting to the local prosecutor in Orlando, State Attorney Jeff Ashton.

The FDLE was investigating the death of gunman Omar Mateen, who killed 49 people and seriously injured another 53 patrons during the June 12 massacre at the gay nightclub.

Mateen was killed in an exchange of gunfire with Orlando police officers and Orange County deputies after a three-hour standoff. Mateen pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group during a call with dispatchers.

Prosecutors in Ashton's office will determine whether the officers' use of force was appropriate.

Meanwhile, the FBI continues its investigation into the deaths of the 49 victims.
