WASHINGTON - The blast of spring-like weather is making some think ahead to D.C.'s cherry blossoms. So what are the predictions for this year's bloom? Mike Litterst, spokesman with the National Park Service, joined us for this edition of Ask Tony and Tucker!
Litterst said it's too early to tell when the blossoms will bloom this season but does say that the blooms come earlier if warmer weather comes earlier.
Don't worry about last year's cold freeze damaging this year's blooms, Litterst said. Only last year's blooms were impacted by last year's temperature drop. "These trees are hearty. Some of them have been out here for more than a hundred years. They've seen cold temperatures. The trees themselves can weather that," he said.
Like everyone else, Litterst says he is hoping for the best of all possible peak blooms to make up for last year. He said the peak bloom date is scheduled to be released on March 1st.
